The use of aero-bars is not permitted during any Ride of Endurance series. Riders reporting at the start with aero bars would be required to remove them at the start point.
Article 6 : Night Riding(Before Sunrise/After Sunset)
For night riding, bicycles must be equipped with front and rear lights attached firmly to the vehicle. Lights must be fully functional at all times (Spare lights are strongly recommended; spare batteries are compulsory). At least one of the rear lights must be in a steady (rather than flashing) mode. Riders not complying with all these requirements will not be permitted to start.
Lights must be on from dusk to dawn and at any other times when poor visibility conditions exist (rain, fog, tunnel etc). Every rider, whether riding in a group or by himself, must fully comply with this requirement.
Every rider must use their lights. All riders must wear a reflective vest that clearly places reflective material prominently on the front and back of the rider.
Any violation of these night riding rules will result in the immediate disqualification of the rider.
Article 7 : Self-sufficiency
Each rider must be self sufficient. No support cars of any kind are permitted during the ER'S.
Personal support is only allowed at checkpoints. Any violation of this requirement will result in immediate disqualification.
Personal Safety Vehicles are permitted, with the organiser’s prior permission and in accordance with the Safety Vehicle Policy
If the organiser creates groups at the start, a rider could choose to leave the group at any time, as everyone rides at their own pace. No rider can be considered as group leader; any distinctive sign (jersey, armband, etc) or title (captain, leader etc) is not allowed.
Article 8 : 8.01: ER Card
At the start of the ER, each rider will receive an ER card. Riders must stop at each checkpoint to have their ER card stamped and to sign the organiser’s sheet. Organisers may also include unannounced checkpoints (Secret Checkpoints) along the route. This ensures that all the riders stay on the prescribed route.
Riders are responsible for keeping their ER cards damage-free and safe with them at all times during the ER. Failure to do so would result in disqualification . ER cards should be kept safe from any kind of damage (caused by tearing, dampness, fire, etc); damaged/torn ER cards would not be accepted and would result in disqualification.
Riders are not supposed to write anything on the ER card, except what they are asked to at the start point by the ride official, such as their personal details, signature.
8.02 : ER Route
At the start, each rider will receive a cue sheet indicating the route and the location of the checkpoints. Riders must stay on the route. If a rider leaves the route, they must return to the route at the same point prior to continuing, ie. no shortcuts or detours from the route, unless specified by the organiser.
The only exception to the "no detours" rule is provided when a road is closed. In such a situation, the rider should first attempt to contact the ride organiser to obtain permission to take a detour. If the rider is unable to contact the ride organiser detours without permission due to a road closure, the rider shall report the route deviation to the organiser at the rider's first opportunity. If a detour is taken, the rider(s) and organiser are responsible for ensuring that the rider(s) have completed the required event distance.
Article 9 : Unmanned Checkpoints
Organisers may have checkpoints with no subscriber of the organising staff present. At these unmanned checkpoints, the rider must swipe his/her debit/credit card at the ATM specified or get their ER card stamped at a local establishment that the organiser specifies as a checkpoint, such as a hotel, store, toll booth or petrol pump. Checkpoint information to be noted on the ER card includes the time and the date of passage.
Missing checkpoint stamps, missing checkpoint times, or loss of the ER card (regardless of the distance the rider has covered) will result in disqualification . The rider (and not the organiser) is responsible for ensuring that he/she signs the control sheet and that his/her ER card is properly completed, signed and stamped at each checkpoint.
Article 10 : Time Limits
Overall time limits vary for each ER according to the distance. These are (in hours and minutes, HH:MM):
03:30 - 50 Km
07:00 - 100 Km
10:00 - 150 Km
14:00 - 200 Km
Riders must arrive at each checkpoint between the opening and closing time for the checkpoint. These times are noted on the ER card with the information for the checkpoints. If a rider arrives at a checkpoint after it has closed, and the Ride Organiser is satisfied that the rider's lateness is due to the occurrence of something unforeseen and beyond the control of the rider (such as stopping to help at a traffic accident or a road closure), then the Ride Organiser may waive the fact that the rider arrived at the control late and allow the rider to continue.
Poor bicycle or equipment maintenance, fatigue, lack of fitness, injury, hunger, etc are NOT unforeseen or beyond the control of the rider and therefore will not serve as a valid reason for being late. Subject to the foregoing, failure to make all checkpoints, even if the ER is done within the overall time limit, will result in disqualification.
Article 11 : Cheating
Any instance of fraud, cheating, or deliberate violation of any of the Ride Rules of THE PEDALLERS will result in the exclusion of the rider from all sponsored events.
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
Using motorised transport during a Endurance Ride.
Hanging on to or taking the support of a motorised vehicle during a ER.
Drafting behind a motorised vehicle or a cyclist (who has not registered for that ER)
Riders who decide to quit the ER at any point are required to first inform the ride officials, before they avail of any form of support from motorised or rail transport. Failure to inform beforehand, would result in disqualification.
Article 12 : ER Completion Formalities
After completing the ER successfully (within the stipulated time limits), the rider must sign his ER card and ensure that it reaches the event organiser. The ER card will be returned to the rider after the event has been verified and a unique Endurance Ride Approval number has been issued. If the rider misplaces a ER card, no replacement to the rider will be made.
Article 13 : Commemorative Medals
ER'S are not competitive events, so no rider classifications or rankings are given. Commemorative medals for each ER will be give who qualifies the event. Your Medals will be sent after your ride has been alloted Approval number by THE PEDALLERS.
